Nowhere in Europe are there more manor houses and castles than in East Funen. The parks and gardens are a fairy-tale in themselves and many are open to the public. It is impossible to forget about Hans Christian Andersen when in East Funen. It is approximately half an hour’s drive from Kongshøj to Odense where you can visit the author’s house and ‘Fyrtøjet’ (The Tinder-Box), the children’s arts centre.
Odense is the capital of Funen and there are many things to see and do in general. The Village in Funen illustrates life on the island around the year 1850. In addition, Odense Zoo offers the opportunity to see animals from the four corners of the world, from reptiles to lions.
The advantage of holidaying in Funen is not least its attractions, and there is very little distance between them. Our magnificent bridges make getting there and back easy and fast. Copenhagen and Legoland are both just over one hour’s drive from Kongshøj.
However this is just a small fraction of what Funen has to offer. Other sights include:
Egeskov is no ordinary castle – it is one of Europe’s finest Renaissance buildings, featuring a real moat, spires, a knight’s hall and ghastly creatures in its masonry. Egeskov is also a PlayForest, where children and youthful souls can enjoy themselves for hours – on the ground or up in the trees in Tree Top Walking.
