Nowhere in Europe are there more manor houses and castles than in East Funen. The parks and gardens are a fairy-tale in themselves and many are open to the public. It is impossible to forget about Hans Christian Andersen when in East Funen. It is approximately half an hour’s drive from Kongshøj to Odense where you can visit the author’s house and ‘Fyrtøjet’ (The Tinder-Box), the children’s arts centre.

Odense is the capital of Funen and there are many things to see and do in general. The Village in Funen illustrates life on the island around the year 1850. In addition, Odense Zoo offers the opportunity to see animals from the four corners of the world, from reptiles to lions.

The advantage of holidaying in Funen is not least its attractions, and there is very little distance between them. Our magnificent bridges make getting there and back easy and fast. Copenhagen and Legoland are both just over one hour’s drive from Kongshøj.

Valdemars Castle

The castle was built 1639-44 for prince Valdemar, son of Christian IV_ and Kirstine Munk. Later the castle was taken over by the naval hero Niels Iuel. The castle still belongs to this family. You can also visit the Restaurant, the Tea Pavilion or the Apple Orchard.
